I have replaced many of the same parts as listed in the other reviews. From what I read this is a common problem. It had 48,000 miles on it. I encourage you to take a few minutes right now to check this truck out! Poor gas mileage and an uncomfortable ride. I changed the transmission fluid and some type of valve resembled a mushroom dropped in the transmission pan--I couldn't find where to replace it. I have one problem that I can't figure out. I can still get 19 miles per gallon of gas if I drive reasonably.
General Comments: I love this truck. I'm kind of upset about that. The high end Eddie Bauer trim level was an option again, although it was dropped after 1996. Gas mileage isn't the best I must admit. While I was at it, I replaced the engine mounts.
I have taken very good care of the truck including regular 4K mile oil changes, lubrication of all fittings, and never overloading its capacities. Ford sold nearly 800,000 F-Series trucks in 1996.
