Heritage Lives in Mustang Mach 1 The new Mustang Mach 1 was born out of the passion of Mustang enthusiasts across America. They emerge as a bold testament to the timeless value that automotive enthusiasts hold for the original American pony car. A black semi-hard boot protects the top and provides a slick top-down appearance. Tricolor front fender badges recall the good old days, as does the prominent but non-functional hood scoop. The gearbox gets very high marks. The front end features wraparound complex reflector headlamps with integrated side marker lamps, combined with a square-edged honeycomb grille and a chrome pony. This limited-edition model had a number of unique enhancements. New colors called Dark Shadow Grey and Redfire were added to the options list to replace Mineral Grey and Laser Tint Red. The engine features large valves, equal-length intake manifold runners, and cams with high lift and long duration to maximize engine air intake for increased horsepower.

But a Beach Boys tape might have been more in tune with the wonderful rumble of the engine. The only small problem was throttle control at 5 mph in parking lots, as it tended to snatch. Today, Mustang shares this heritage in performance and design and outsells every other car in the hotly contested small-specialty segment. The firing strategy on both driver and passenger side air bags also has been updated. Convertibles feature a power top with a scratch-resistant glass rear window.
Convertible models with Premium trim come standard with an automatic transmission. The Mach 1 got a new 4. These terms are used for identification purposes only. Your right leg has to stretch too far to reach the console, although your left foot can be jammed on a good dead pedal. The vehicle is lowered one-half of an inch and is equipped with a firmer suspension for improved handling.
Both of these new designs helped the Mustang become what it is today! The Cobra returned for 2003 with a vengeance.
We dropped the top and kept it there the whole time. To enhance the low-to-the-ground appearance, the car features another classic Mach 1 trait, an air dam extension, painted low-gloss black.
