With the significant cost of replacing the panel, I decided to wait on the repair. Just this past week I looked down and was going 120 I have no idea how fast I'm going and even more interesting no recall. Use the de-soldering bulb and the solder iron to suck off the old solder on each of the four pins of each motor. The purchase date was unavailable. The instrument panel would illuminate, but the fuel gauge, speedometer, oil pressure gauge, and rpm gauge would malfunction. The failure will be diagnosed by the dealer. When I called the chevy parts dept they knew immediately it was the instrument panel. And finally there will be 1 or 2 wire harness plugs in the back that need to be simply unplugged. Use the de-soldering bulb and the solder iron to suck off the old solder on each of the four pins of each motor.
Either one or both screen will typically be affected. Sometime, the speedometer will even exceed the max speed on the dash and I know I'm not going that fast. This will be important when you put it back together to maintain calibration so don't skip this step. You guys know that all you have to do is tell the dealer you are having instrument panel issues and the dealer will replace the cluster free of charge, no mileage or time limit at least for 03-04 gm pickups, denalis, yukon etc. This problem is unrelated to the stepper motor problem but is often seen in the same clusters. This morning I started out at 54 mph before I put it in drive.
Both Zwicker and Hall were represented by Beth Terrell, an attorney with the Seattle law firm of Tousley Brain Stephens. The dealer stated the cluster is bad and needs replacing. My instrument panel is messed up. After little research, I have found thousands of people with the same problem. I have noticed that it does not move smoothly when I increase or decrease my speed. Eventually, it began to register up to 70 mph while stopped at stop signs.
Because they are replacing your entire instrument cluster with a different unit they must re-program the replacement unit so that your odometer mileage will display correctly. It will jump from 0 to 120 mph and stick somewhere in between or give a false mph reading or just go to zero and register nothing. I should not have to pay for a known faulty part simply because my work entails extensive driving. This is usually the first gauge problem the vehicle owner sees and is experienced as a stuck, sticky or jumpy gauge needle. Make adjustments to the needle a little bit at a time while unplugged until you get it to point right at the zero mark. A recall is a recall no matter the mileage. So if anyone else has this problem get it in to the dealer before the 6 of February or you will be paying out of pocket. I left the house on feb. At 60k I tried to get the item covered but they were not helpful. Speedometer can stick at excessive speeds indicated on the cluster, this had intermittently effected the cruise control operation. Again that's something a shop would need to look into, see my links above. Not all instrument panels are interchangeable, however. Any labor costs will be the responsibility of the vehicle owner.
