Pull the yellow emergency trunk release handle that should be dangling right beside the area where the trunk latches to the car. I think it might be a fuse but not sure which one. The owners manual will show you the fuse box or boxes locations and what each fuse powers. Now if the trunk latch button is popping the fuse then disconnect wiring to trunk latch in trunk and try the button again. I think it might be a fuse but not sure which one. I hope someone can help. How to go farther and find the problem exactly is not covered in this answer. If so then try opening the trunk electronically, if the fuse blows again then you know that circuit is the problem. Some components may have multiple fuses, so make sure you check all of the fuses that are linked to the component in question. I butt connected the wires in the jumper rubber junction and the trunk light turned on and the trunk release works again! If it did now blow the problem is something to do with the part of the circuit you disconnected. If a fuse is blown, replace it then check to see if the brake light works. The round key should open the trunk, if not then it might be the wrong key or the trunk lock cylinder may have been replaced. The fuses are in the trunk compartment fuse block. They should be able to figure out if the component needs to be replaced or if there is a short or some other problem with your Charger. It is Fuse 22 10 Amp located in the Rear Fuse Block in the left side of the rear compartment, behind the left rear wheel well. Mine came switched to the 'Off' position when I bought it and it took me a few days to figure that one out. Also there are 2 fuses for this system.
I hope someone can help. I think the my have been defective but now I have no light even with the old good bulb. Pop cover off and undue the rwo screws. . The unlock solenoid may be the culprit if it shorted out, just a possibility. If you need to replace a blown fuse in your Charger, make sure you replace it with one that has the same amperage as the blown fuse. Does your key fob button open the trunk? This should get the trunk open so that you can expect the locking mechanics for damage: bent steel, something foreign stuck inside, bad cable, etc.

The wires as they run from the body to the trunk lid is a good place to check for a pinched wire or short. It might save you some time and trouble if you are trying to figure out a problem with your trunk release system. All my other lights seem to work fine.
