Plus I prefer to have a bed that can actually haul things and the look of a long truck is just nice. Short boxes are their bread and butter, I think they do look better, and you adapt on how to use them.
Thanks to all for your comments. An easy fix would be to put the harness and swithes from the 1988 transmission into the 1984 transmission. The Chevy pickup trucks with 8-foot beds consisted of a wheelbase of 131. The older trucks C10 are base model trucks named only by capacity. Get multiple quotes from junk yards and auto wreckers who compete for your business. The overall length of the 6-foot beds were 191.
My previous truck was a short box and it wasn't an issue. The long wheelbase of the 1985 Chevy S-10 pickup truck had a payload rating of 1,000 and 1,500 lbs. Get a trailer if you have to haul something bigger. The shortbeds are totally worthless. The lock-up harness would have to be modified, changed or have a hydraulic lock-up kit installed. The 1985 Chevy pickup truck featured a 6-foot and an 8-foot extended cab, and the wheelbase didn't change on the vehicle until the appearance of the 1988 model. At first I picked the standard length but when I saw the truck in person I flipped to short length.

The wheelbase of a vehicle refers to the horizontal distance between the center of the front wheel and the center of the rear wheel. Like stated above, trucks just look weird with a cab longer than the bed. I have to decide by tomorrow and am leaning towards the short box. The Crew cab standard bed is the perfect truck if you ask me. The C10 designation tells you the truck is a half ton model.

The only other distinct difference in body styling other than the bed was the cab options. The 1984 700R4 will interchange with a 1988 700R4. Can't fit much in a 6. Sorry, we couldn't find any matching parts in our inventory. If looks didn't matter I might have included Ford or Dodge in my selection. I have this and a Double cab standard bed and prefer the crew.
