Thanks again for your help. Can someone please help or share their opinions and experiences. The engine is still snappy it is a 244ci V8 from Cadilac. Twist belt to get between idler pulley and engine mount bracket. A shop says its an internal combustion to coolant system leak that cannot be fixed, but I read that it could be a bleeder valve not opening causing heat to be trapped under the thermostat. It handled well at 110 miles an hour and it brakes just as well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
In order to ensure sufficient Cooling System, freezing and corrosion protection, maintain the coolant protection level at -37°C -34°F or lower. Spark problems can come from crank and cam sensor too. You may have developed leaky valves or rings. My 98 oldsmobile aurora keeps overheating while driving around town or just idling. The second most common problem is related to the vehicle's electrical system 90 problems. The reason the pressure stays where it is on your gauge is because it has a check valve in it. I have changed the thermostat and flushed the radiator.
The car drove fine to me. This means you could have great compression, but still could be getting gasses into the coolant system. The chart shows the number of problems reported across all service years for each given model year of the Oldsmobile Aurora. Pros: Great looks , plenty of power. Timing is something that is usually pretty easy to check. Also you asked if I had noticed any brief or lasting rumbling sensation at speeds between 35-50 mph…what could this mean? When these gaskets leak you won't see water in the driveway until they get very bad. You'll see bubbles in the coolant system when you pressures the cylinder.
Does anyone have suggestions where else the misfire may be coming from? Yes, that will definitely cause it to overheat. Done all compression tests, new water pump, new raditor, thermostat was rusted solid removed and did not put new one in--thinking it would help to keep the engine cool. Set the temperature to the highest setting. The arrows on the radiator pressure cap must line up with the coolant recovery tube. Not a easy job, but can be done if engine is cold, you have plenty--I said plenty-- of time and patience. And compression should be next on the list if the spark is good and at the right time. If you think your car has a safety defect but it hasn't been recalled, save your receipt and other documents if you get it repaired.
They can be found at the other end of the spark plug wires. I have a 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora with 103,000 miles. A good mechanic should have the equipment to measure for good spark. Has a decent bit of horsepower and plenty of torque. The reduced mpg is probably due to the misfire, not the evap problem.
I hope this solves the misfire problem. Regarding the other code for the Evap Emission, I was told I would have to have the car smoked to find the leak. Is the code P0742 a major problem or hard to fix; is it inside the transmission? Failure to use the engine coolant supplement sealant and the approved coolant antifreeze could result in major engine damage. This is my only car and I am a single mother. A cylinder leak down test can reveal if there is a head gasket problem, cracked head, or cracked cylinder wall. These gaskets leak from time to time and leave water streaks on the block and heads driver's side just above where the transmission and engine bolt together. If you receive notice of a recall, contact your local dealer.
I just reread your Sept 14 posting above. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved. Thanks again for your help. Allow the engine to cool to the outside temperature. It has good compression in all cylinders. I have had the car smoked and the mechanic could not find a leak and the gas cap is good.
In that case you just simply replace it. What should the oil psi be for a V8 Olds Aurora? I have a few problems with it and need to get it painted and some very light body work done but otherwise its solid. Thanks for commenting on my post. Pure antifreeze can freeze at -22°C -8°F. If you want to guess cheap, then throw an evap purge valve at it and clear the code. It may be time to just pay for the diagnostics but no one really likes to work on these anymore.
