You ever notice the really good movies don't get a lot of promotion? Cannavale and Plummer certainly do everything they can to elevate the storyline. Did fame and fortune damage Steve Tilston's life like it does to Danny Collins in the movie? First of all, the director proved the script is very important to a film's success. The dialog is also admirable. Though he still makes lucrative tours that satisfy his senior-citizen fan base, Danny hasn't recorded an original song for 30 years. The way the scene plays out, though, feels like a lazy narrative cheat, especially given a pop landscape in which older artists of all stripes lust after the very sort of back-to-basics career reboot that renders Danny inexplicably paralyzed with fear. As he finds an age-appropriate companion Annette Bening who doubles as his moral compass, he also reconnects with his estranged adult son Bobby Cannavale. Once Collins reads it, he decides to completely turn his life around, letting go of his hard-partying ways and reaching out to the son he walked out on, played by Bobby Cannavale, who's now grown up, with a wife, Samantha Jennifer Garner , and a 7-year-old daughter Hope Giselle Eisenberg of his own.

But in a monologue given by the almighty Frank Grubman Plummer to Danny's estranged son, Danny is full of flaws but he has the best of hearts. The parking lot attendant at the local Hilton, the girl at the front desk, everybody but the tightly wound hotel manager Annette Bening , who deflects his insistent pleas for a dinner date but tolerates his drunken self-pity and banal lyrics. But when his manager Christopher Plummer uncovers a 40 year-old undelivered letter written to him by John Lennon, he decides to change course and embarks on a heartfelt journey to rediscover his family, find true love and begin a second act. Plummer adds a sense of reality and humor to his interludes with Pacino — wisely controlling his movements against Pacino's histrionics. He now only has two goals, write a song that is meaningful to him, and build a relationship with his long-estranged son Tom, a construction worker who wants nothing to do with him. Lennon also included his phone number, encouraging Tilston to call him sometime to discuss the subject further, but, since Lennon had sent the missive to the ZigZag offices instead of Tilston directly, it never reached its addressee, and was instead sold by someone within the office.
On the East Coast, Danny checks into an ordinary hotel room and immediately begins wooing the female hotel manager. Garner and Bening try to raise the energy level but frankly don't have the screen time. Summary: Aging 1970s rocker Danny Collins Al Pacino can't give up his hard-living ways. It's only now that Frank Christopher Plummer , his agent and best friend, presents him with a long lost letter written to Collins by John Lennon after that interview so many years before. You can be famous and still be yourself. But the movie is not really about the music. Danny Collins comes from the director who brought you Crazy, Stupid, Love and this movie is another charmer in the same vein. Then you have Jennifer Garner and the delightful and funny Christopher Plummer. The real Danny Collins, Steve Tilston, has a daughter named Martha and a son, Joe.
