Once thats all done you can drop the headliner. Headliner Update It took about two months from when I first noticed the headliner loose in a couple of places to it coming undone in all of the deeply recessed areas. Tidy up and lock down any loose cables and replace any of the foam wire covers which are starting to wear. Just as a tip, be cautious removing your headliner, because it does have to be gently bent to remove it from the vehicle and reinstall. You can paint them to match your interior if you want but I chose not to. Is this more specific to Land Rovers? A job well done and the inside looked like new. If the engine is running and you shut the door and reopen it the lights will come back on.
Sunroof repair: I can't take credit for this fix, I saw some guy on YouTube do this. I just took a big plastic brush and scrubbed for a while until the whole thing was a nice green colour. Headliner: Unfortunately I didn't document the removal process, but it is pretty straightforward. My guess is that the stains where caused by clogged sunroof drains, but since I am new to rovers and have no history on this rig, I would love to get the opinion of some long time disco owners on this issue. My sunroofs were leaking in my Discovery 2, I don't think they designed the sunroofs on these to compensate for our crazy weather here in Canada! What I decided to do was paint the headliner with truck bed liner because I'm no good with fabrics. The old foam is miserable gummy sticky goey stuff. I have owned a lot of cars over the years and not had any issues with headliners. If you headliner is starting to sag and you dont feel like, or care enough, to replace it try this out. Most shops dont want to remove the headliner board because it takes time and money to do such a job, but is the only way to see with your own eyes where the water is coming from. They come in many styles.
. I too have a stained headliner, mainly above the rr passenger door. The bad news is that I am getting water again in the right front corner after the new headliner is installed. Discovered the leak was from the roof rail attachment bolt, which goes all the way thru the roof. Other things to check: My rear windshield washer sprayer was not working, at least not well, this was due to a cracked hose above the headliner. Once I was sure there was no leaks and I had blown any blockages out of the drainage hoses I let it set and waited for another rainstorm to ensure it was fixed. Great effort on your first post! Even thos of us that live in climates that have both heat and cold? I also used so much glue that they would withstand an impact form within the cabin. Let me know how your project is going and if you were able to find replacement material for the headliner. I went with truck bed lining because its super thick, tough and gave my headliner a bit more strength it was starting to crack in a few places. Not likely to be a sunroof seal! I'm tryin to post pics but theres a database error. Its not the easiest to pull out with one person, but a big help is to remove the weatherstrip from the rear door at least halfway down.
The assistants are essential, but they don't need to be experts, just reliable. That's what I suspected, so I cleaned the sunroof drains the best I could this morning. I am also trying to re-glue the headliner material where it has separated and sagging.
